Alder

Native to Britain and Europe, Alder is a deciduous hardwood tree that flourishes in damp weather, and is often found populating river banks and marshes.

Alder has rich green leathery leaves and dark, often lichen-clad bark, and is the only native deciduous tree to produce cones.

Slow-grown Alder is very durable and resistant to both heat and water. We use knot-free European Alder for some of our bench slats and back rests as it has exceptional moisture resistance and doesn’t overheat, and because the uniform light wood colour elegantly contrasts the darker tones of the heat-treated poplar and ash, as well as the varied tones of the cedar we use for internal cladding.
